African Soft Furs are often called either rats or mice, but really they are neither. This species of rodent comes from Africa, enjoys living in large colonies, and is very soft! Their care requirements are more similar to mice than rats, and they are able to live with domestic fancy mice in mixed groups. They are quite small, about the size of a gerbil, but larger than mice.
African soft furs are new to the pet scene, and most lines are bred as food for reptiles. Because of this, they have a reputation for being aggressive, territorial animals. At Prairie Sky Rattery, our lines come from Fen'Halla Mousery, who have worked hard to produce soft furs that are handleable and rarely bite. We are continuing the work of domestication to produce wonderful and enchanting pets!
