Our new roof rats are here! These little guys are an entirely different species from the domestic fancy rat. They are known scientifically as rattus rattus.
We obtained our new ratties from OC Dumbos, who have been working on this line for years in Florida. They are not domesticated, but they are well on their way - through selective breeding, they are much more calm and friendly than wild rats.
We are welcoming five new rats, two bucks and three does, named Tangelo and Lychee, and Valencia, Almond, and Lemon. They are still quite young and have a few months before they reach breeding age, and after that we will have lots of work to do evaluating temperament and matching rats accordingly. Keep an eye out as we begin to work on this line!
